⏹ pn(1)
A colour-ramp for the 1:1,470,000 map depicting the landing site of Apollo 11 on the Moon, by Paul Naylor for the Ordnance Survey, Great Britain's national mapping agency. Paul Naylar writes: The moon's terrain would be depicted by a hillshade created from a Digital Elevation Model captured by NASA and JAXA's SELENE/Kaguya team. I wanted to then colour this hillshade using a palette that best captured the satellite's many peaks, craters and troughs, exposing them in all their glory. It wasn't easy, but eventually I was inspired by Jordi Delpeix Borrell's winning photograph for Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2018 which I discovered on the BBC website. I think the use of yellows and blues captures the satellite's topography nicely with the yellows depicting higher areas of terrain whilst blues depict lower.
